Somatic Therapy
Embodied Processing
Embodied Processing - a somatic nervous system regulation method.
Somatic therapy is a body-centered approach to healing.
Unlike traditional talk therapy, which primarily works through verbal expression, somatic therapy incorporates physical awareness, movement, breath, and sensation to help release stored tension, trauma, and stress held in the nervous system. The word "somatic" comes from the Greek word soma, meaning "the living body," and this therapeutic approach honors the body as an integral part of emotional and psychological well-being.
Embodied Processing has helped me make huge shifts after experiencing the loss of my home and business to wildfires in 2017. I have also been able to process the trauma of a car accident and orthopaedic surgery. I am passionate about post traumatic growth, and helping others to move forwards in life.
By tuning into bodily sensations and patterns, somatic therapy helps individuals become more aware of how stress, trauma, or unresolved emotions show up physically. A guided somatic process like Embodied Processing can help to develop a deeper sense of self awareness, cultivate resources for regulation, and understand our nervous system in an embodied way.
Somatic therapy can be especially beneficial for anyone dealing with anxiety, trauma, chronic pain, or disconnection from the body, offering a holistic path toward healing and self-awareness.
I know from my own personal experience, this modality can help us process and digest difficult and challenging life experiences in a safe and effective way.
What to Expect?
An Embodied Processing session is a gentle, client-led experience that helps you connect with and process emotions, sensations, and unresolved traumas that are stored in the body and nervous system.
Rooted in somatic therapy and trauma-informed principles, the session focuses on cultivating awareness of your inner experience in a safe, supported way—without needing to re-tell or relive the story intellectually.
Somatic therapy can benefit a wide range of people, particularly those who are seeking a more body-centered, holistic approach to healing. Because it works directly with the nervous system and the body’s stored responses to stress or trauma, somatic therapy is especially helpful for individuals who may feel "stuck" in traditional talk therapy or who sense that their emotional experiences are deeply connected to physical symptoms.
A session is 60 minutes, with the process itself usually lasting 50mins. Prior to our first session, you will complete an intake form which will give me general information about your reason for seeking out a somatic therapist, as well as general information about your health, well being and lifestyle.
Outcomes?
Somatic therapy can benefit both the physiological and psychological systems. As the nervous system and body-mind regulate and integrate past experiences, we might notice a sense of body awareness and connection, and an increased capacity for emotional regulation and resilience. You may notice a growing ability to stay calm and centred, even in stressful moments.
Over time, this process can help release old patterns of tension, emotional overwhelm, and stress that the body has been holding. Clients often describe feeling lighter, clearer, and more grounded — with improved sleep, energy, and emotional balance. Somatic therapy can also support you in developing healthier boundaries, deeper self-awareness, and a renewed sense of safety, confidence, and inner peace in your everyday life.
