I have always loved to move my body. I find deep peace in movement, and exploring internal experience. I feel lucky to have been introduced to somatic movement by a wonderful teacher visiting our yoga retreat centre in Portugal in 2015.

The word "somatic" comes from the Greek word soma, meaning "the living body experienced from within."

‘Movement is what we are, not something we do.’ — Emilie Conrad

For me somatic movement, or a somatic yoga practice means we cultivate internal focus. We place deep attention on bodily sensations, breath, subtle, soft movements and stillness. Movements are gentle and intuitive, mindful, and adaptable to your needs in the moment.

We develop and notice states of self-regulation. We can notice and inquire into places of tension and holding in our body, allow them to release and relax, and develop the capacity to support emotional healing.

We don’t strive to make a shape or posture. We are not focussing on "performance". We are experiencing and exploring, becoming somanauts.
